Of a new motivation

It’s been a while since I put up a post. Lots of things happened.

I went through a quarter life crisis, wrestled with God over my future, quit Ubisoft, joined Singapore Poly, stopped watching anime, stopped reading manga, started reading proper English novels again, started watching Netflix, bought a new PS4 to play Just Dance, and horrors of horrors, started playing Candy crush.

For so long I have been telling myself I need to do some work I need to have some output, but I always start a new animation and never finish it.

Now I decided need to quit the lifestyle of absorbing and learning and put it to use. I’m going to start on 1 year journey to produce 1 animation a week. short ones. They need not be long. It’s just a challenge I want to tell myself to keep in the game. It’s just 1 a week!

I will start this week and I’m going to start small. Nothing ambitious, but I hope I can sustain this. I am blogging this in a hope to revive my motivation and keep myself accountable. Accountable to no one, but myself.

Watch this space this weekend. I will keep it to updates on Sunday Evenings as much as possible. Cheers!

Of a short haircut

I just cut my hair.

People who know me would know that I sported various hair styles when since I was young. Up until I was 7, I had the typical young kid hair, with a straight fringe and long hair. When I was 7, I was enrolled in a strict Chinese school, which meant that I had to chop off my locks to just under my ears. After that “horrifying” experience of cutting my hair, I decided to keep it long for Secondary school for a couple of years before I decided it was too much of a hassle and chopped it off for a more edgy short look. Once I decided to even dye it purple just for fun.

And so on and so forth. I just alternated between long and short hair, just for the hell of it. I never really kept my hair past the medium length, until I got married and decided to keep it really long for the wedding.

I think I’m not really that attached to my hair. It’s just another form of expression of myself, like clothes. I can chop it off, or I can grow it out, I really don’t care. It just depends on whether I wish to have a change of a look. So which is why I don’t understand why people call me brave. The lady in the salon yesterday said to me, as I cut my hair, “You’re so brave, I could never cut my hair short.” Well, then don’t. It’s your hair. You want long hair, and you like long hair, so keep it. Someone close to me asked if I could bear to part with my hair that I took so long to grow out. Well, yes, I’ll cut my nails if i took 10 months to grow to a nice length to shape but decided it’s impractical. Same thing, my long hair is a burden to me now, so yes, I can bear to part with my hair. Nothing symbolic about it.

Please don’t call me brave. Brave is when you really have grown so attached to your hair that cutting it will make you cry, but you decide to do it anyway because you will change someone’s life by cutting it. Bravery is also not daring to cut short and defy the common ideals of feminine beauty (long hair). Lots of celebrities have already done that to prove that short hair is chic.

I’m not cutting my hair for anyone but me.

Of a guilt unmentionable

How do you deal with a loss that is so sudden and so gruesome? How does one move on, knowing you didn’t try your best to help?
How do you get rid of the guilt, of not being able to save someone?

How do you reconcile that it felt as if God didn’t help him?

Of Rings of Fire

Hooboy What a weekend.

It’s been a while since Dada and I went on a date proper; we have hardly enough time to meet every week. This weekend is different as he took leave yesterday and didn’t work today. So It seemed  like a proper weekend for us though It’s a Friday and Saturday.

After we had our marriage counseling, someone went all grumpy because we had to travel around by public transportation. Firstly it is time consuming, secondly, unpredictable and  thirdly, it is uncomfortable and inconvenient.  We had little time together so I suppose he didn’t want to waste so much time on peripherals.

Anyway we travelled all the way to orchard, and discovered the Jewellery store Where we bought My engagement ring didn’t have nice wedding rings so we had to go all the way to Jem at jurong east time visit Venus tears,  a new Japanese Jewellery store with the designs that we both liked. But bloody hell it was late already and we were definitely Not interested in spending another hour fighting with the going home crowd all the way to jurong. So we pushed it to today.

So that brings us to today. Learning from our lesson yesterday, we took the car, travelled back to Forum Galleria Where we were yesterday, to eat the ramen that we didn’t eat yesterday. We didn’t eat yesterday because the time we were there at orchard was more suited for tea time and who the hell eats ramen for tea? So the first thing on date agenda, ramen, was achieved. Thankfully we went Early too, as carpark lots are difficult to get after 12.

Next stop, jem. With the car, it took us 20 minutes to travel halfway across the island, a trip which could easily take an hour plus by train from town. Thank God for private transport.

We did get the rings we both loved!! I partially wished I Got My solitaire from here, as their designs are beautiful, and you can’t go wrong with japanese designs. But the store  only just opened, and one can’t be too greedy right?

Halfway through making the purchase with Venus Tears, the fire alarm went off. Now, Jem had a case of a fire going off in NTUC xtra just two days ago. So we joked that there was another fire in the building. The salesgirls also looked unfazed and gave us this look saying “No worries, probably a drill” in My mind I thought Ya la, probably fire drill or someone accidentally set it off.

But it didn’t stop ringing!!  And soon after, the recording changed from “The fire alarm has been activated. Please wait for further instructions as we investigate the matter” to “there has been an emergency in the building. All occupants should evacuated the building immediately ”

well. We still carried on with our purchase. After all, No smell, No panic No nothing was happening outside. After we made the purchase we just hung around the mall and everyone was also looking puzzled. Eventually we.decided to be obedient and  made our way out. That’s when we smelt the smoke and saw it. We thought, could it be xtra again? Or some cookhouse on fire?

Didn’t look too serious though so we went back in. But this time it seemed more serious. The concierge was frantically making calls and stores were shutting their doors and the security was shuttling people back outside, refusing to let us go to our cars.

People whipped out their phones to get photos of the ensuing crowds, who were all really calm, and Dada was trying to fish for information from cna

With No access to the car, most of the shoppers headed to Jcube to wait it out and listen out for news. After another hour or two, we headed back and went to pick up the car

On our way, we saw SCDF personnel heading out of the carparks. And then we saw a corner of the carpark cordoned off. emAnd it was close to Where we parked. /em

In My mind and he thought out loud, cham liao, was it our car????

We hurried over and saw a Nissan blackened from the fire .  emGood. Not our car. We drive a Toyota.  /emWah But it looked a wreck and the car next to it looked affected too. Camera crew, photographer and police and the whole bunch were there all assessing the situation.

And 6 car lots away. Was. Our. Car.

We almost parked in the lot next to the Nissan. It was nearer the shops entrance and was an open lot when we arrived. The usual Dada would have said, there is nearer, better, let’s park there. Somehow, today he went with, emAiyah, Got parking lot can liao. /emThat thought protected My car. And I’m super grateful that God gave wee pin this change of heart.  Otherwise the car would have been charred!!!

Thank God. Really.

From now on, when I wear My wedding ring, I will have stories to tell My kids and grandkids about this. Thus is the story of the rings of fire.

Of needing a life.

Today I woke up at 8am in a jolt. I had a nightmare that I wasn’t performing up to standard at work and it was due to nothing else but laziness.

I had gotten slack with my talent maintenance. I had gotten lazy with my animating. I had stopped drawing completely.

I need to pick it up. I need a life. I need to STOP playing stupid useless facebook games that do nothing for my brain.

Step one: Go to church, repent and pray
Step two: Hear the sermon is about Jehovah Jireh
Step three: Pray for surrendering so that God will take over and provide
Step four: downloaded ipad app to animate on the go.
Step five (VERY IMPT): Used ipad app.

I think I’m on my way. We’ll track my progress for next week. Yay. I’m pumped.

Of the preparations…

7 more months to go. We’re so excited and can’t wait. It’s been too long D:

So much to get done. But I’m so glad he’s someone I can count on, and he calms me down so much. :)

Of some recommended shows

It seems that a lot of people who have just started, or are interested in starting, to watch Jdramas always approach me, asking, “What shows do you recommend?” When that happens, I usually have to wrack my brain for the thousands of hours I put in watching all these shows since my University days, to sieve out appropriate dramas, according to their preference of genres. Sometimes I look back on my blog and click the “Jdrama” filter, but not all that I love have been reviewed. So I will still turn back to DramaWiki, spend much time looking through and recalling the shows again. :\

So I decided to set up this post to remind myself of all the good shows I have watched (up till I started work in Ubisoft and found little time to watch).

DISCLAIMER: Firstly, I do not claim to watch all Jdramas. Secondly, I, like many people, have preferences in genres. (I love high school rom coms, drama, sports, crime, romance) I don’t watch period dramas. Thus, don’t take my list to be the comprehensive list of GOOD japanese shows to watch. Thirdly there are other good shows I have not watched yet, but I know are good. I will not include them in this list until I verify for myself that it’s good, and into which list they go into.

So basically, this post is for you, who is a “noob” at Japanese Dramas, but want to start somewhere. As an jdrama fan, I don’t want you to start out on a crappy jdrama (yes there are some crappy ones) and then throw out jdrama as a stupid fad of the 90s. But I hope you will enjoy these shows as much as I did, and spread the love of jdramas.

It has begun, the official planning for the Big Day! It’s terribly frightening yet exciting at the same time. There’s a lot to be done in the meantime before we say the “I Do”s, and I sure hope I don’t become a bridezilla!

I hope I’m not pressurizing Dada either :) Excitinnngggg

Of bugs.

So you know how we say there are bugs in a game where something is not right?

Well, there was a bug in my shoe. Literally.

This morning when I got to work, I thought the insoles of my shoe was bunched up at the toes area as it felt a little cramped. It was either that or my toes grew fatter, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t that option.

But when I inspected it, it was… DUM DUM DUM. A beetle! those small brown ones that are common. I tried to probe it out but when it was exposed to the light, it tried to crawl back in. I wonder if it’s really that comfortable in my stinky shoe. Ugh. Haha.

Anyway it’s out now.
